When patients sit down to talk about body contouring, they often arrive having already chosen a treatment, usually the one they saw most recently online. I prefer to start from the other direction: what does the area look like, what bothers you about it, and how much recovery can your life accommodate? The answers usually point clearly toward one category.

In this article I compare four approaches we use at Serene, from purely noninvasive devices to minimally invasive procedures, so you can see where each fits.

Three questions that guide the choice

  1. How much fat is there? A small, pinchable bulge responds to different tools than a large volume.
  2. How is the skin? Firm, elastic skin will adapt after fat reduction; loose or crepey skin may not.
  3. How much downtime is acceptable? Some options let you return to work the same afternoon; others need several days and a compression garment.

Whatever you choose, body contouring shapes the body; it doesn’t replace weight loss. If your goal is to lose a significant amount of weight, our medical weight loss program is usually the right first step.

Nonsurgical: EMSCULPT NEO

EMSCULPT NEO combines radiofrequency heat with electromagnetic muscle contractions to reduce fat and build muscle in the same session. It suits people near their goal weight who want a firmer abdomen, lifted buttocks or toned arms and legs.

Nonsurgical: Lipomelt

Lipomelt is our noninvasive fat-reduction option at the Hudson location, designed for stubborn, localized pockets that persist despite diet and exercise. Like other noninvasive fat reduction, it works gradually, with results developing over weeks to months, and it is best for modest bulges rather than large volumes. Ask for current pricing at consultation or see our pricing page.

Minimally invasive: BodyTite

BodyTite uses radiofrequency energy delivered beneath the skin through a small cannula, heating fat and the underlying connective tissue at the same time. Its advantage is skin contraction: it is often chosen for people with mild to moderate laxity who would not get a smooth result from fat removal alone.

Surgical: liposuction

Liposuction physically removes fat through small incisions and remains the most powerful option for larger volumes or precise sculpting. It is often combined with BodyTite when skin tightening is also needed.

Side-by-side summary

Significant loose skin after major weight loss or pregnancy sometimes needs excisional surgery such as a tummy tuck, which is something to discuss with a plastic surgeon. I’ll tell you if I think that is your best route.

Who should wait or reconsider

Any body contouring procedure is best postponed during pregnancy and breastfeeding, while weight is actively changing, or when medical conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes, heart disease or bleeding disorders are not well managed. People with electronic implants cannot have some energy-based treatments. Smokers heal less predictably after minimally invasive procedures.

Frequently asked questions

Is nonsurgical fat reduction permanent?

Fat cells that are destroyed don’t return, but remaining fat cells can grow with weight gain. Maintaining a stable weight protects your results.

Can I combine treatments?

Yes. For example, liposuction with BodyTite, followed later by EMSCULPT NEO to build muscle, is a common sequence. Your plan will be staged safely.

Which option has the fastest results?

Liposuction shows the most change soonest, though swelling takes weeks to settle. Noninvasive options improve gradually over about two to three months.

Are these treatments available in Barboursville?

BodyTite and liposuction are offered at both locations. EMSCULPT NEO and Lipomelt are currently offered in Hudson only.
