If you have lost weight on a GLP-1 medication, you have probably felt the payoff: better energy, easier movement, numbers your doctor likes. Then you catch your reflection and your face looks thinner, tired or older than you feel. That is common, it has a clear cause, and it is treatable. Galderma’s Sculpt & Lift regimen (Restylane plus Sculptra) is the first injectable plan studied specifically for the face after GLP-1 weight loss. Here is what it can do, what it can’t, and how we approach it for patients in Hudson, Stow, Twinsburg and the rest of Summit County.

Why does your face change after GLP-1 weight loss?

Your face is held up by distinct pads of fat that sit in layers under the skin: in the temples, over the cheekbones, under the eyes, along the jawline and around the mouth. When you lose a significant amount of weight, those pads shrink along with the rest of your fat. A 2025 systematic review in Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum describes the pattern: volume loss in the temples, cheeks, tear troughs, jawline, marionette lines and nasolabial folds, which together create a gaunt look that resembles early aging.

Skin is part of the story too. Fast weight loss gives skin less time to adapt, and lower intake of protein and healthy fats can leave it drier and duller. The result is a face that looks deflated rather than slimmer.

Two things are worth saying plainly. First, this is not your medication “attacking” your face. It is what substantial weight loss does, however you lose it. Second, it is not a reason to stop a treatment that is improving your health. It is a reason to plan for your face the way you plan for your muscle and nutrition.

What is Sculpt & Lift?

Sculpt & Lift is Galderma’s name for combining two very different injectables:

The logic is simple: filler gives back the scaffolding, Sculptra rebuilds the fabric. Using filler alone to chase widespread volume loss is how faces end up looking overfilled. Our article on GLP-1 facial volume loss covers the full range of options; this one focuses on the combination.

What did the GLP-1 face study actually show?

Galderma ran a multi-center, open-label phase IV trial at two U.S. sites in adults with facial volume loss after medication-driven weight loss. Patients received Sculptra with Restylane Lyft or Restylane Contour at the first visit, Sculptra again at week 4 (with an optional filler touch-up), and an optional third Sculptra session at week 8. At nine months, the company reported:

How much weight should you put on those numbers? The study is small, open-label (everyone knew what they received) and run by the manufacturer, and the results so far are from company announcements rather than a peer-reviewed paper. So treat them as encouraging, not definitive. What gives us more confidence is the track record of each product on its own. Sculptra’s 2023 FDA approval for cheek wrinkles was based on trials in which 96% of patients improved at three months and 94% were still improved at two years.

Who is a good candidate, and who should wait?

You are likely a good candidate if:

You should wait, or choose a different plan, if:

When should you start: during or after weight loss?

For most patients, the answer is when the scale has slowed down. If you are still losing several pounds a month, part of whatever volume we restore will be absorbed by further fat loss. Sculptra also needs about two to three months to show its full effect, so starting when your weight is close to steady gives you the most for your investment.

That said, you don’t have to wait a year to feel like yourself. If your face bothers you now, a conservative first visit, often a small amount of filler where the change is most visible, is reasonable. We add Sculptra once your weight is stable.

Risks, and how we reduce them

All injectables carry risk. The common ones are swelling, bruising and tenderness. Sculptra can occasionally form small bumps under the skin. Proper dilution, correct depth and the at-home massage make this much less likely. Hyaluronic acid filler carries a rare but serious risk of blocking a blood vessel. We inject slowly and in small amounts, keep the filler-dissolving enzyme on hand, and know the warning signs. Our article on filler safety and vascular occlusion explains what we watch for.

Our Hudson office is at 50 W Streetsboro St, Suite 2, in downtown Hudson. Patients come to us from Stow, Twinsburg, Aurora, Streetsboro and Cuyahoga Falls, and from Akron and the Cleveland suburbs. If you are in our medical weight loss program, we can time your face plan around your weight-loss plan instead of guessing. If you are new to us, you are just as welcome. How we approach it at Serene

We are a physician-led practice, and we hold Galderma’s ASPIRE President 2026 status along with Allergan Platinum and Merz ELITE+ partner tiers, so we have access to the full range of fillers and biostimulators. Our approach is restoration, not exaggeration: rebuild support where it was lost, protect your skin quality, and stop when you look like a rested version of yourself. If injectables are not the right answer, for example if loose skin is the bigger issue, we will tell you, and we’ll talk through skin tightening or, when appropriate, a referral to a facial plastic surgeon. Frequently asked questions

What is “GLP-1 face”?
It is the hollow, deflated look some people notice after losing weight on a GLP-1 medication such as semaglutide or tirzepatide. Fat loss in the temples, cheeks, under-eye area and jawline removes support, so skin can sag and folds deepen. It is not a side effect of the drug acting on the skin; it is what fast, significant weight loss does to facial fat.
Should I treat my face during or after weight loss?
In most cases we recommend waiting until your weight loss has slowed or you are close to your goal. If you treat early and then lose another 20 pounds, some of the volume we restored will be “used up” by further fat loss. If your face is bothering you now, a conservative first session is reasonable, with Sculptra added once your weight is steady.
How long do Sculptra and Restylane results last?
Restylane results usually last about 6 to 18 months depending on the product and the area treated. Sculptra works differently: it stimulates your own collagen, and in the trials behind its 2023 FDA approval, 94% of patients still showed improvement at two years. Most people return for a maintenance touch-up every year or two.
Is Sculpt & Lift the same as getting regular filler?
Not quite. Filler alone replaces volume in specific spots, and using only filler to correct widespread volume loss can lead to an overfilled look. Sculpt & Lift uses a small amount of hyaluronic acid filler for structure and Sculptra to rebuild collagen across larger areas, so the face looks restored rather than filled.
Can I keep taking my GLP-1 while I’m being treated?
Usually, yes. Most patients continue their medication. Tell us what you take and your dose schedule, and avoid booking a treatment on a day you feel nauseated or unwell. If you get your GLP-1 through our medical weight loss program, we coordinate both plans in one place.
How much does GLP-1 face treatment cost in Hudson?
It depends on how much volume has been lost. At our Hudson office, Sculptra is $750 per vial and hyaluronic acid filler is $500 per syringe as of October 2026. Many faces need several vials of Sculptra over two or three visits, plus one or two syringes of filler. You get an exact plan and price at your free consultation; see our current pricing.
